I entered the Artscape Fashion Design Competition again this year. The guidelines for the competition this year was to create a garment using recycled or repurposed materials. This was the qualifying dress made of ziploc bags, plastic bags and legos...
The next stage of the contest was to create a collection of 4 additional looks. I put together a collection under the inspiration of 80s Rock. A shag vest made of trash bags, a mini skirt made of ziplocs & pants made of shower curtains are a few of the pieces that were included in this collection.
Janelle Monae. I saw her twice this year live and she has an AMAZING stage presence. I respect her most for staying true to herself and her art. I like this interview minus them calling her style "left field". Lady Gaga left-field? Yes. Janelle Monae? Not so much. Different? Yes. I like that what she does has a purpose and she has a positive message that she desires to convey. Truly an inspiration.
These are some of the pictures from the Towson JSM Show which was on May 7th. I used most of the pieces from the Morgan show. I styled a number of them differently and added a few new dresses. Unfortunately, I did not get pictures of ALL the looks. I really do need a photographer on hand for these events. A friend captured these looks. In the coming months, I plan to do a photo session to get images of the other looks.
So, I will be showing a small collection featuring some t-shirts I designed. I got the t-shirt shipment in today . I am excited to get the rest of the collection polished and done. I have much work to do.
