Update...

Since my last entry, my precious Imac G5 passed on. The logic board gave out... It was a sad day. Fortunately, I backed up most of my work, music and videos after the power supply was repaired in mid-August. I am on the search for my next computer.

In the meantime, I have a few fashion projects I am working on as well as thinking of what to create as my birthday outfit... I have absolutely NO CLUE!! I have a week until the big event. Hopefully it will come to me tonight when I start sketching... So on that note...

FYI
On my current playlist is a GREAT new artist... Leah Smith... I just saw her recently in DC and will possibly see her in concert again along with Mali Music this coming Friday...
My FAVORITE song by her is "Monster"... Check it OUT!

New Work: Kimberly Nichole

A number of lightbulbs have been going off in my mind lately. The creative juices are flowing! I think it has something to do with the turn of season. I am a fall baby so I am in my element when the weather cools downs. It's something about brisk fall evenings with my hot green tea in hand that makes me smile.

I have a number of graphic projects in the works including illustrations featuring some of my favorite true soul artists. I've been talking about the idea for sometime but it is OFFICIALLY in the works.

One of the artists I will be including is Kimberly Nichole. She recently released an album and yours truly designed her album cover. She also used the graphic as the header on her website, you can view it at www.kimberlynichole.com/_/IN_THE_KNOW.html .

She is an insane vocalist and performer. I got hooked on her music when I saw her perform her version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" on youtube. Please check her out! Purchase her album you will not be disappointed.

Late Nights

It is late... I'm working on a graphic project. I just sent it to the client... waiting on the feedback.

Lately, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for inspiration for fall and spring. I have a few photos that I will upload soon as I learn to upload from my phone...

The Verdict

The final judgment... I didn't win the Artscape competition... BUT I received a lot of positive feedback on my collection and a lot of doors are opening that may not have been had I not entered. I have accomplished so much in even this small step... God has much in store...

Good Times: Jaspects

Last night I had the pleasure to join my close friend, Brit, to a Jaspects performance. I heard her play their latest album, Polkadotted Stripes, in her car but I had no idea what their set would be like. I can say I have not seen anything like it in a positive way... I am so glad I went... music is extremely inspiring to me, especially when the artists are true and dedicated to their work. This is a video I found on youtube that shows an interview with the band members about the concept for the album and a bit of their performance.

Artscape Competition

I had the pleasure to be advanced to the second round of Baltimore's Artscape Sew Me What You Got competition. The dress I submitted had to be made from fabric purchased from White Marsh's Ikea store. This was my end product.
The beautiful model that brings so much life to my dress is Marianna Ross. She also modeled my dress at the Ikea store this past Saturday. The store hosted a fashion show featuring designs of the 15 finalists in the competition. I call this piece the "Going Green" dress.

shel silverstein

i was just reading the collection of poetry in his book.... where the sidewalk ends... who remembers that book? i remember discovering his poetry in elementary school when i was trying to find something to read for the dramatic reading contest. yeah, we had a dramatic reading contest. did that contest exist at any other elementary school? anyway, his book is an example of the imagination at its best.... check out his website... www.shelsilverstein.com

Whatif

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
Some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
And pranced and partied all night long
And sang their same old Whatif song:
      Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pol?
      Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
      Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
      Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
      Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
      Whatif I don't grow talle?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
      Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
      Whatif they start a war?
      Whatif my parents get divorced?
      Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
      Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
      Everything seems swell, and then
      The nighttime Whatifs strike again!

excited

so i advanced to the next round of a fashion design competition in md and i am more than ecstatic about it. the excitement is partly because i almost didn't enter due to a time crunch. i banged out a dress and the judges thought it to be note worthy.

i will keep the world posted as to the details of the next stage of the contest. i will also post a picture of my creation sometime this week.

also, welcome to my blog!
